02 grand prix MAF problem has me stumped
Driving car and it dies. Maf sensor is the code. Change it, reset code, and drive
it 2 miles and it dies. Won't start until I clear code. Then I drive for a couple
miles and it dies again, repeat..... What am I missing.
What trouble code do you have? -Jim
P0101 could be the MAF circuit. In other words the wiring going to the sensor. Also, if you bought a rebuilt sensor it may be defective. A new one can be too, but it's less likely. Do you have one of those cold air intake set ups on your Grand Prix? The oil used on the air filter will contaminate the MAF. Check the hose going from the air filter box to the MAF. If it's split or otherwise damaged it can skew the MAF signal. Check for any vacuum leaks. If you have the 3.8 engine the intake manifold gaskets are suspect. Especially if you're between 90,000 and 120,000 miles. Check that the MAP sensor hasn't lost vacuum. Or is leaking vacuum. Rarely a clogged catalytic converter can cause the P101 along with the symptoms you describe. So check that as a last resort. HTH. -Jim
