Would the computer from a 2001 Grand Prix be interchangeable with a 2000 Grand Prix?

Asked by Kymagick Dec 09, 2014 at 02:11 PM about the 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix SE

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2001 Grand Prix, runs and drives good, but has some body damage to the left rear door and quarter panel. I have the chance to buy a 2000 Grand Prix with a great body, but the owner says it needs a computer and a rack and pinion. I thought I might use the one I'm driving for parts for the 2000. She's only asking $500 for the 2000.

You need to match the computer/ECM number,s,,if they don,t, match it won,t work. You can have it programmed to the car,by a dealer.

Ditto what T_S_T said. I personally would never buy a car that I can't start, run and drive. Unless you are planning to swap engines and/or transmissions from your 2001 into the 2000, if the 2000 has a bad engine and or transmission. I'm sorry but you just can't trust anybody these days.
