I have a 2001 pontiac grand prix. I was heading out of town the other day and made it 1 mile out and lost power. Car would redline when I gave it gas but it would not move. I put it in park and shut it off and now it will not start. What could be wrong with it?

Transmission fluid is good and so is the battery. When i try to crank it the starter turns but something starts grinding. I have also checked the fuel pump and it is good.

Trans fluid may be good but the trans may have reached the end of its life. It may have died and left you with the car thinking it is still in gear causing the no start.
