Question type: Maintenance & Repair

One of the top plastic clips holding our driver's side door in place has broken off, and the problem is that the plastic housing it fits into is broken. Clips are easy to find but the housing is apparently molded into the door and can't be replaced. Any thoughts? Is there anything we can do to fix this?

We've been thinking of taking a metal bracket which already comes with a slot that's perfect for the plastic clip, but we don't know how to attach the metal (or anything) to the area where the original plastic housing was. Its the circular bit on the door in the pic above. Any ideas? The door isn't flopping around or anything but we'd like to get it fixed. It's funny because everything we read about repairing this warned us of the clip breaking but nothing warned us about the housing itself, ha ha.
