Idle problems with 99 Grand Prix gtp 3.8L

Asked by Tamara Sep 27, 2016 at 05:05 PM about the 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix 4 Dr GTP Supercharged Sedan

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I replaced the fuel filter, the air mass
sensor and recently replaced the fuel
pump. As of yesterday 9-26-16 my car
started acting up, I turn the car on and it
only idles for no more then 5 seconds. The
battery dies after a few attempts, the
check engine light doesn't come on. Last
Tuesday I took it to GM dealership and
since then my car has been acting like the
light go dim and bright. What can be the
issue?

Bad battery or Alternator. Charge the battery so you can drive it to ur local auto parts and have them check ur charging system, its a free service

The car won't stay idled enough to be put in gear. I unhooked the battery right now it does start but won't stay idling.

I researched online and found a video of someone with the same issue as me and he said he reset the MAP on the car and it started right up. How and where can I do that? Will that work?

Map sensor is connected to the hose between air filter and throtle body. Disconnect it and see if it runs for a bit, if it does, u'll need to replace it, they don't reset
