94 Pontiac Grand Prix. ..2 issues could they be related

Asked by Jul 28, 2017 at 11:58 PM about the 1994 Pontiac Grand Prix 4 Dr SE Sedan

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

1994 Pontiac Grand prix hadn't been driven in few months, replaced battery
started up on first try.  Drove it quite a bit first day no problems next day ihaving
trouble getting it to start right away. Takes few tries. Sounds like not getting
gas, but when turn ignition sounds like fuel pump is working. Next thing was
while driving it lost all power and wouldn't start at all.  Waited 10 or 15 mins and
tried again and power was back and it started.  Could these be related or 2
separate issues?  I'm pretty much car mechanics challenged so  where do I go
from here.

First, is the car running fine now? If so, it sounds like there might have been an issue in the fuel delivery, check the fuel filter. I would never just put in a "new" battery and go if it's been idle/storage for a few months, like 3 or more... Also, verify no wiring has been compromised, critter love to chew on wiring... and also since it was a new battery, I'd verify the alternator is charging... a vehicle will run a while just off the battery... I know this for a fact when I lost a V-belt that went to the alternator.\ Change your fuel filter, put in some gas-treatment and verify the alternator is good, most Advance Auto Parts stores do this at no charge (not a spokesman for Advance, just know they do this).
