Question type: Maintenance & Repair

This site said 5 quarts with an oil change. It's
actually 4.5 quarts with the filter. My car was
ruined due to the bad information

There is no way an extra 1/2 quart will ruin an engine. Did you bother to check the oil level?

my uncle always used an extra qt ,or two back in the 70s says it kept it up longer due to a slight seal drip , still drives that old brougham around the farm nowadays feeding the cows.

Also 1 other point. The only way an extra half quart of oil would ruin your engine is if you failed to drain the old oil out and possibly that might not have destroyed it, but it would have certainly made lots of smoke out the tail pipe. Any time I have had a vehicle that used 4.5 quarts of oil I have always put 5 quarts in so I didn't have a 5 quart jug sitting around with only a half a quart in it. Shelf space in my garage is somewhat sparse.
