Can a bad oil pressure switch actual shut off the fuel pump?

Asked by Joshua Jan 24, 2016 at 10:28 PM about the 2005 Pontiac Grand Am SE

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I've had this car for quite some time and a
few months ago the car stopped and I had
to have it towed and had the fuel pump
replaced. This first fix worked for about a
month perfectly until I was driving a few
days ago and the car sundenly loses power.
These are my systems.

.Turn car on fuel pump activates can here
buzzing or humming

.Car starts just fine

.Car runs for a bit for about 10 20 minutes.

.Car then randomly while driving shuts off
like fuel pump isn't working and won't start
again unless I let it sit for 30 minutes.

Also check engine light stays on even after
oil change always has for some reason.
Checked owners manual did the reset still
stays on.

.Diagnostics and repair so far.

I've already tried changing the fuel filter just
wishful thinking hoping that it could
possible effect the fuel pressure enough to
cause stalling... This did not work.

I tried swapping the relays for the fuel pump
hoping that maybe is was due to some type
of intermediate relay failure. This did not
work.

. Like I've said before the fuel pump was
replaced and still seems to be in working
condition... But am not completely certain.

Also today car started so I drove to
advanced auto parts to run the codes and
these are the codes I got.

P0250 - Full pump circuit malfunction.

P0446 - EVAP System emmision system
vent control circ history mil.
P0455 - evaporation emissions leak
detected gross leak/ no flow. (From
changing the fuel filter yesterday or riding
there with no gas cap because forgot to put
it on)

P1106 - Manifold absolute pressure sensor
circuit intermittent high voltage

P0520- Oil pressure sensor circuit
malfunction....

1 Answer

The oil pressure sender will turn on the warning light but will not shut the engine off. It won't hurt to change it out though.
