04 grand am rough startup after replacing fuel pump

Asked by Koke Dec 22, 2016 at 09:03 PM about the 2004 Pontiac Grand Am SE2

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I'm having this issue on my 04 grand am 3.1l v6,
just replaced the fuel pump it was sitting about a
year, now I have to use starting fluid to get it
startedand it will backfire from the intake manifold,
and it takes it getting to temp to even idle right. I
have to sit there and pump the gas pedal to get it
to Rev up to about 2500-3000 rpms bc it tries to
die. I didn't change the fuel filter after replacing the
pump, what could be the issue

Sounds like your fuel may be stale after sitting for a year. Also, old gas in the tank promotes water vapor build up and sediment being sucked into the fuel lines. This could also cause the problems you are experiencing.
