Sometimes when you start car it just shuts off,need to give a shot of gas to get going.What would cause this?

Sounds fuel related, but since the light is on , you can scan for the fault codes.

Yes fuel related if it keeps going when you spray any fuel related item in intake. Check fuel pressure and get codes read. Could be anything on the fuel system. Injector, harness...etc
