Can anyone give me advice about my car

Asked by Justin Jul 20, 2016 at 12:40 PM about the 2003 Pontiac Grand Am GT Coupe

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My car over heated. It's been leaking coolant
when I would shut it off. It would pour out. I
drive it about 11 miles pulled in the gas
station bc it started to over heat real bad.
The car sat for about 3 months. I bought a
new thermostat and water pump. Should
both of those fix it??

Is the water pump where the coolent is pouring out from ? If yes replacing the water pump will do it but if not need to find where coolent is pouring out from and fix it.

Oh ok thermostat should take care of that if not could be a clogged radiator. If water pump is not leaking would try the t- stat first.

There is also steam coming out of the over flow tube. Not sure why. I just wanna make sure I don't have a cracked head. Is the steam just coming out bc the engine gets so hot? Bc that's the only time it does it
