what would make my engine vibrate when the car is first started

Asked by handymandy Apr 09, 2012 at 11:46 AM about the 2002 Pontiac Grand Am GT

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

my car is having an issue with either the o 2 sensor or even the air flow, as now when its first started it causes the motor to feel like its vibrating and when i put it in Drive, from Park, it takes off without me pushing the gas.  The vibration settles down after a few min of the car running.  When idoling in traffic the RPMs get low and it almost sounds as it wants to stall.  (it hasnt fully stalled yet) only matter of time.

There are many things to look at, starting with the air filter. from there you may need to have a throttle body clean. Recommend a mechanic to do that. Also a MAF sensor cleaning as well. If it still occurs, only other thing( of many...I mean) it may be is the throttle pistion sensor in malfunctioning.

could be something as simple as a worn vacuum hose or clogged fuel injector.
