2001 Pontiac Grand Am 3.4L Fuel Pump Problems

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have put a new fuel pump and filter on the car and the car will still not start but the pump is running. I took the line off at the filter and no fuel is coming out of the line but when you turn the key on you can hear the pump running. So I removed the new fuel pump and took it back and got another new one and still the same problem is occurring. Then I put a pcm in the car and still no change, and also changed out the fuel pump relay and it’s still doesn’t start  ...DOES ANYONE have any idea what it could be????

does it sound like its trying to start or does it just turn over also is it getting spark? Look to see if the theft light is on when you try to start it, couple thing I would make sure of...

did you put a test light on the coil packs? not going to blame the fuel..but instead would look at spark...also a healthy electrical system will have a strong GROUND connection...be sure to unbolt the main 1/0 battery cable as it attaches to the chassis ground...wirebrush the lug free of corrosion and the spot that it bolts to...for a 300 steady ground to all sensors and components~

These cars are famous for defective Idle Air Controls...if you can do this easily take it off and de-varnish to make it work normally~ https://www.google.com/#q=2001+Pontiac+Grand+Am+3.4L+Idle+air+contro l&tbm=shop&spd=1466175103898559850

Are you 4 guys related? such similarity's! lets see ,pump runs, no fuel at open line with 2 new pumps. Are the in and out lines crossed? is the wiring to the pump crossed making it run backwards? Is the dip tube down enough to reach fuel? maybe they gave you wrong part number pump. something with the installation !

bahahahahah ^ how many of these cars have you worked on ? a special needs kid trying to bite his own ear could install it correctly . check for spark and make sure you never bottomed out and squished a fuel line

If the fuel pump is running, and no fuel is coming out of the line, that pretty much narrows the problem down to fuel delivery, lol. Start at the back: pull the line off the tank pickup, make sure it's not clogged, and go from there. Reversed pump wiring, clogged pickup, bent line, no gas in the tank (yep, it's happened).

I had the same problem with my car haha make sure the pump is factory because these cars hate aftermarket parts. I had warranted 4 new autozone fuel pumps and they were all bad. All the fuel pumps turned on but no fuel delivery.

It is a security problem...nothing is wrong with the fuel pump.Turn the ignition to the on position for 15 min.Turn the ignition off then turn it back on and start the car...
