Certain electrical features work, and car starts up but dies after?

Asked by kayys11 Jan 11, 2014 at 09:33 PM about the 2001 Pontiac Grand Am GT

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2001 Pontiac Grand Am GT and the problems I have seem like a bit of a
conundrum! The other day I went to unlock my car with my key remote but it did not
work. I unlocked it manually becasue even from the unlock button on my door, my
power locks don't work...along with my radio. However, my lights, dash board lights,
and power windows work. Then when I go to start my car, it starts up but then dies after
a few seconds.

I'd suspect the main ground cable off the battery...starts with a clamp and ends with a lug...clean the lug with a wirebrush...use a pliers to get it good....wirebrush the frame/fender to assure a solid 300 amps cranking potential~...get a NEW battery~

Does the security light flash at all. Sounds like the power lock module under the dash.
