2000 Pontiac Grand Am running lights will not shut off

Came home last night the marker lights on the car or on and the dash lights
were on I open the door the chime is ringing like the headlights have been left
on don't know how they came on but they will not shut off until the battery dies

Make sure your head light switch is at AUTO, I'm almost sure the settings for your lights has moved. These years of Pontiac are a little confusing. I had a 2001.
