What's the life expectancy of a 99 Pontiac Grand Am GT?

Had a 1998 that had 200,000 on it was tired of sticking money in it so we gave it to my niece. they had to weld the sub fram up because it was so rusty. But it still runs and drives Had to do alot of work to it after it hit 150,000 though got tired of throughing money at it

That depends on several things....condition of tires for example.. that car can be expected to have a life expectancy well beyond 200,000 IF it has been properly maintained it's entire life, many variables. Personally, I would probably not spend that much. I don't have a clue about your financial situation and it's none of my business, but for $300 a month or less you can get a good, used car in the 2005..2007 range.

I would say that $1000 to $1500 in repairs would probly exceed the value of the car

I would say in your case, it's around 190,000 miles. What kind of repairs does it need? You might be able to do some of them and keep the GT rolling. Check in at GAOwnersClub.com for more GA info. You might be able to sell the car there if it's too much for you.

I have a 99 and was told the same thing, "it was so rusty" Oh my! so it's really good to discover this, it was my first brand new car so it's hard to part with it but Ronc258 is right and so was my husband - I'm ashamed to admit that I didn't listen to him in the first place.

the car is like every other car if you look after it and get regular maintance it will last a long time

I gotta 1998 grand am gt that has costly repairs need basically 3 tires im usjng my spare right now a new battery and brakes arent that good & also my prdnle acts uo occasionally so im looking for answers aswell

Ok, first of all you can't go off of the 98 model because 99 was the first year for the new body style. My dad had a 96 and it needed a lot of costly repairs but the newer body style is SOOO much more reliable. I have a 99 Grand Am SE which aside from a few minor differences is the same as the GT, it has almost 275k on it and aside from a little rust on the underbody and a little surface rust on the frame its in excellent condition. It has a well maintained 3.4 v6 that had a blown head gasket, which cost me about $300 to change myself, and thats changing all the gaskets on the upper end and having both heads pressure tested and milled. The interesting thing was the excellent condition of the internal components of the engine I can safely say other than head gasket issues the 3.4 is very well built.

I am driving a 2001 with 365,000km on it (that's 226,800 miles!) on it. IT WONT DIE.

I bought my 99 Grand am se in May of 98. The sunroof wasn't available at the time except in the movie, Lethal Weapon. It currently has 916664 km on it and still drives fine in 2018. With regular maintenance/tune-ups, 5000km oil changes using Petron Plus oil additive, 6 alternators, 4 batteries, a heat exchanger, radiator, and countless tires are all that is required.
