Asked by Sherry Jan 22, 2016 at 10:17 PM about the 1999 Pontiac Grand Am 2 Dr GT Coupe

Question type: General

I drive a 1999 grand am gt 2 door.  My car won't go
in forward or reverse. Added three quarts of
transmission fluid IT moved. Put it in park, came
back the next day and I wss back to square one
with it not going forward or in reverse. Do I need
another transmission or add more fluid?

Did any of the new fluid you added leak out? The level check plug is under the car, if there is fluid there and it wont move then you have bigger problems. Keep in mind that the PCM in these cars are sensitive to the tranny gearing. A GT needs a GT tranny where as all other v-6's are interchangeable for that GM body type (Grand Am, Alero, Malibu, etc). If the wrong tranny is used the computer needs to be flashed.
