Replacement key

Asked by Jbpa39 Jul 02, 2018 at 11:35 AM about the 1997 Pontiac Grand Am 2 Dr GT Coupe

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 97 Pontiac Grand am. The
battery died, we jumped it. Drove it for
a bit. Went to go start it, it turns, but
won't start. The mechanic said he can't
override the theft pass key???
Someone had told me, another
mechanic, that the key we have isn't
even the right one!! They told me to go
to like kmart and they will give me a
number to call to give my year, make
model, vin and title #, then they send a
code to the machine to make a key. Is
this correct? Kmart don't have my key.
Where else do I go, other then
dealership?

Sometimes the dealership is the best place to go to for certain problems. I had to have one of the computers replaced and other mechanics struggle trying to troubleshoot that problem. Your other option is to reset the theft system by turning the key to the On position and let it stay there for 10 minutes. Turn key off and do it again for a total of three times. (30 minutes)
