1996 Pontiac Grand Am 2.4 Cylinder,

Asked by Felwynn Feb 23, 2016 at 06:58 PM about the 1996 Pontiac Grand Am 4 Dr SE Sedan

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Just recently had the Serpentine belt replaced after it came off while driving.
Since this happened my car has been having problems starting and has just
recenlty stopped starting altogether. Some say the starter may be bad, others
say the belt could have been put on too tightly. I'm not sure that the issue is,
and since I cant start it, I can't take it anywhere, please help!

Most likely reason is the serpentine belt not being properly tensioned and is not allowing the alternator to charge your battery. Could be just loose or possibly the tensioner is weak and needs replacement (or the belt was not routed properly when replaced). Put your battery on a charger and it will likely come back to life if it is reasonably new and in otherwise good condition.
