We have a 96 Grand Am that our son drove to work one day and it ran fine, when he came out after work the engine would start but would quickly shut off.

The car will start but then quickly shut off as if it isn't getting enough gas. We had it
towed to a shop but they are even stumped as to what it could be. They say they haven't
ever seen it before. Has this ever happened to anyone else. Thanks

...could be any number of failing systems at work (or not work) here...please narrow it down by having your OBD-II diagnostic codes read for us by NAPA oreilly or advance or any other auto parts store should do this for FREE...in the hopes that you buy the parts there to fix it~ or ye could buy ye own unit~

defective ignition switch would be my first guess~

I have a 99 pontiac grand am se 3.4L V6. The issue is that it starts and idles fine but as soon as I go to accelerate it just shuts off. It did have overheating issues but right after I fixed those it started doing this. I replaced the cam position sensor and also the engine coolant temp sensor and it didnt help. I was thinking of replacing the ignition coil packs and housi g but not sure if that would fix it. There are no check engine lights or stored codes . 4 Answers
