can the fuel injectors be checked separate from each other off the car and the fuel pressure regulator

we have the car torn down doing some other work to it and we want to check the fuel preesure regulator and each fuel injector also is there a way to test each one off the car.

I have seen 3 or 4 devices that show an injector working but I don't know if that was strictly for school for learning or if they are used in the field. Only way I can see an injector being tested other than resistance is removing the fuel rail with everything still connected and each injector hovering over a container. Crank the engine and measure the fluid amount after a certain amount of cranks.
