My wife has a 2006 merc marquis, last night the alternator went out while she was driving. This morning I went and put a new one all is good, so I thought. She says now the power steering is not working. The fluid level is good, no leaks, the belt is turning the pump. This may be a dumb question but is there anything electrical about the power steering. She swears it just started being hard to steer. Please reply my name is Carl.

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hi my name is Carl
My wife was driving her car last night and the alternator went out. I went this morning a
put a new one on, all good right, I thought . Now she swears the power steering is not
working, it is too hardto turn.  The reservoir is full, no leaks, and the belt is turning the
pump, it is not growling. This may be a dumb question but is there anything electrical on
the power steering system ????     Please reply, thanks

Make it 4. If the p/s pump is out, it would probably leak. While you are re- routing your belt, may as well put on a new one, it might have gotten damaged.
