2004 mercury grand marquis

When I try to start my car all I'm getting is like a
click click sound it won't do anything after. What is
the problem?

Weak battery or battery electrical connections to ground or to starter or bad engine to frame grounds, May also be because or a bad alternator or connections to it, which will cause the car to run of the battery until its fully drained, so have both tested and connections to both and starter checked for them loose or frayed or corroded.
