brake humm

Asked by Trippmeister Sep 13, 2019 at 11:12 PM about the 2002 Mercury Grand Marquis GS

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Brakes humm when stopping from high speed. Not the usual situation with
warped rotors. No vibration. New Calipers, pads. Rotors 3 years old. Slotted
with holes, look good. Brakes work better than they ever have, just that
humming sound. Hub bearings? Wheels don't shake. Cracked rotors? I've
heard the drilled ones are prone to cracking. 60 years experience, and I'm
stumped

Thanks. i guess there's no reason to replace them, then. It's funny it took a few years for them to start doing that. My first time with slotted rotors. The sure stop well.

Did this start happening after putting on the new calipers and pads ? If so you may have gotten some brake grease on the rotor by mistake remove rotors and clean with brake clean.
