Disingaing the clutch on my ac compressor

I have a 2000 mecury grand marguis,  I wanted to stop the clutch from moving  When I removed the harness on the compressor the car would not start,  I put it back and then it started again.  Why?

Good question. Also, you can remove the wires from the pressure switch up on top. Easy to find. It will still run, for sure.

Manufacturers make fail safes to keep from damaging expensive parts. It may have thought it was a virgin compressor with a no fill situation. Therefore saving a heay repair and expensive part. Im not 100%. The other thing could be the additional strain with the compressor pre engaged; the starter couldn't overcome the load. I know a manufacturer will not start a car without refrigerant and push the car offline for repair.
