What tools do you need to take a whole rear end
assembly off on a 1999 grand marquis mercury

If you want a proper step-by-step guide, look into a Chilton or Haynes manual, or subscribe to them online (online version come with many more pictures). You might also find some instructional videos on youtube. You'll need basic tools, sockets, wrenches, pliers, screwdrivers, if all you're doing is dropping the entire rear end. You might also want an oil pan so you can drain diff fluid (and rags), and you'll have to pull the brake lines, and being a Ford, you'll have to remove the pinch bolts at the struts, those are always fun - no special tool required, unless it breaks, and they love to break, then you'll need bolt extractors. You'll also need a floor jack and jack stands.
