My dad lost his key to his 99 Grand Marquis. If I get a blank cut, can I use the one key he still has and just use it twice and program the new key as a third key? Read somewhere how to program a new third key.

Question type: General

Dad lost his keys and we still have my mom's key. One website says that if I have two
keys, I can use them one at a time, turn on then off, and insert third key, turn on and off,
and third key will be programmed. Why can't I just use mom's key twice and accomplish
same thing?

If the key,s are chip key,s meaning there will be number,s on them, you will have to have the programmed by a dealer,do not do what you read on the internet,or who ever told you that,it will set off the anti theft divice on the car,and not even the good key will work,go let a dealer or lock smith program the made up key,s,and only use the one that your mom has in the car untill you do it.

If the key your mom has, doe,s not have number,s on it,it is not a chip key,and you can have blank key,s made and they will not have to be programmed to run the car,but if has number,s on it do not use them untill you have them programmed.
