Trunk lid spring needs to be stronger. How do I move the lever at the hinge?

When car is parked on a grade the trunk lid will not always stay fully open,
especially in strong wind.

Just pull the rod out of the hinge at the current position and move either up or down to get more tension.

Do I need a tool? I was concerned the rod might have a lot of tension and be difficult to move. For more tension should I move the rod upward or downward? Thanks!
