2000 Towncar A/C blower sticking. Comes on sometimes. When it doesn't, sometimes driving over a bump, a jolt, starts the blower again!???

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Sometimes A/C blower works, sometime not.  When not, driving over a bump,
giving the car a big JOLT restarts the blower again!???  Any thoughts?

I likely has a bad blower motor speed control. This is similar to a blower motor resistor, but it is electronic. It is located to the rear of the passenger side engine valve / cam cover on the fire wall. Probably you can tap on it with a screwdriver handle and cause the blower motor to go off and on. This is a common problem on these vehicles.

Bob's tip WAS helpful, but in a slightly different way. I tried tapping on the speed control device as he recommended, but that didn't do the trick. So then I thought I'd try tapping on the blower motor housing itself which is more forward and further right of the motor speed control. THIS did the trick! Fan came on right away! :-)
