92 town car won't start

Asked by fossiljen Mar 02, 2017 at 07:46 PM about the 1992 Lincoln Town Car Executive

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

When we turn the key, the starter motor engages, but it won't catch and start. We had to replace the fuel pump back in November, replaced filters at the same time. It has spark on all 8 plugs. Smells like fuel is coming through when we crank it, but it just cranks and cranks, can hear it almost catch, but just won't start. Where do we go from  here? Fuel cutoff switch isn't up.

See if it fires off with some starting fluid sprayed into the throttle body. If it fires up, then check the fuel pressure. Could have a bad fuel regulator. Otherwise check the compression of the engine. May be too low to run anymore.

Yeah, already tried the starter fluid. No go. It was running fine when we parked it, then the next day, nothing.

Check the crank sensor , my town car did the same thing and I replaced the crank sensor and fired right up , sensor is located front passenger side just behind crank pulley. Not an expensive fix!
