the easiest way to tell if your shock absorbers are worn is if you have a really bounce ride. it should be a bit stiff so if you are driving and notice that when going over bumps it bounces a lot you should probably replace them. The struts depneds on the condition of them. it is also good to check the manufacterer specs on how many miles they recommend before you change them. A wheel alignment is necessary when changing struts usually it will depend on the mechanic as some will prefer to do an alignment.
