What do I check when my 1998 Audi A4 2.6 standard shift shuts off while driving?

Asked by sshhdc2333 Jul 07, 2014 at 07:41 PM about the 1998 Audi A4 2.8 quattro Sedan AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I was driving home in my a4 going through the gears with no problems, when I started slowing down in 5th gear, due to getting close on another car. My car shut down. I pulled off to the side of the road and could not get it to start. The starter will turn over however its like it wasn't getting fire or gas. an hour or so later I went back to the car and it cranked with no problem. Drove it down the road maybe 20 miles got back into 5 gear and slowed down for a red light. Same thing happened. Does anyone have any suggestions what to do next.

try checking your fluid levels in your trany. and check your wires to the electronics. the only other option is don't drive in 5th till you figure it out as your 5th gear may be worn out. have it checked for codes.
