My Cadillac Seville, with the battery under the rear seat has a positive remote post in the engine compartment. As for the negative you are to use any metal grounded place on the vehicle to use when jump starting. As far as the battey itself the negative post wire usually goes right to a bare metal ground.

Thanks I ssume then that it is all right to hook negative cable to the negative battery pat as it looks like it has another lighter cable from the battery negative post going somewhere which would be metal ground

That is correct and will work if you are planning to jumpstart it, However it is recommended to place the negetive jumper cable to bare metal of the car being jumped thats safer because of the spark that may accure when attaching it, If the were a crack in the battery leaking gas (highly unlikely I know). The othe three cables are attached to the proper battery termimal post.

Sorry to say that is a very expensive battery $145.00 to $185.00. The battery may have gone dead from the 3 weeks in the cold, But once you jump start it the altenator should recharge the battery. It might take a long time of running to recharge it. Maybe 20 minutes or more.(Or you could use a trickel charger if you have one) Then you could see if the battery will hold the charge before buying a new one.

If you do need a new battery I would recommend the cheapest one you can find at a local auto parts store. Any battery that is that same size would be specifically made for your car and would work well. The Audi A8 Quatro has always been a very nice automobile, Good luck with her.
