my grand cherokee 2005,V8 5.7L selects gear 1-3 only and after which it stops selecting and hums,this puts the engines under alot of pressure.what could be responsible?

Sounds like a control module to the transmission. Have you had the fluid and filter replaced at anytime in it's life? Sometimes shift solenoids fail as well. But usually defects or improper shifting is due to the transmission fluid and filter was never changed within recommended service intervals.
