heater blowing cold air

I have flushed the heater core and changed the thermostat is there any other things I can check or fix to see if I can get my heater to blow hot air before I give up and take it to a mechanic?

Of course there is! Change the radiator this is the major cause of reduced heat, and while you are there change BOTH hoses and new clamps they are probably fatigued as well do not skimp in this area (use quality hoses)as a blown head gasket or a warped head can also occur.
