04 jeep stalled and won't start

I was driving my 2004 jeep grand Cherokee Laredo and
pulled into a driveway and it stalled.  It had been getting
louder ( engine) for the last few days.  I had it towed
home, and now I can't get it started.  It makes a "chung"
sound when I turn the key almost like something is bound.  
The gouges bounce on the dash when I try to start it as
well.
