I have a 2004 Grand Jeep
Cherokee Laredo with a
247 J transfer case I
picked up a 242 WJ used
one will they be
compatible

Hi it should go in you will notice that the 247 input shaft is longer than the 242 also the shifter lever will need to be transferred as well also the 247 has a gerotor and coupling in it due to the fact its an AWD system ...so you may get some noise out of the 242 due to the fact the diffs have the vari-lok system and will be trying to drive or send power to transfer case on wheel slippage they have the same low range of 2:72:1...but if you need to get it on the road it should work ....also you will need to transfer over the rear case housing the 242 has an exposed drive shaft where the 247 slips into the case
