2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee i6 will start but as soon as I press the gas the rpms drop

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

So my 2003 grand Cherokee i6 was going down the
highway I hit the gas to try and make the turning
light, when i did the trans over temp light came on
then the check engine light came on and the trans
over temp went away. Now getting it started is a
challenge and when I do it idle around 2000 rpm
then drops to the regular slowly. When I put it into
drive it moves but as soon as I press the gas the
rpms drop and if I don't let off the gas the engine
stalls or stops. Please help.

Your best bet is to get the vehicle scanned for codes. This will tell you where to look. Just going by the symptoms you describe a good chance it would have something to do with the Throttle Positioning Sensor. (TPS)
