Anti theft on 99 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Asked by Mar 22, 2017 at 01:40 PM about the 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited 4WD

Question type: General

Husband accidentaly started the Jeep with a
dummy key, no chip. It set off the anti theft. I see
the comments on disarming it by doing the door
lock thing, but one of his back door locks is broken
and won't lock so it won't work for me. Is there
another way? I comments about disconnecting the
battery..will that reset it as well?

No that will not, you will need to bring the car to the sealership and have it reset !

The door lock thing might work even if the locking mechanism doesn't. And you might try starting it with the original key and see if that makes the computer happy again. It's worth a try and if you can make it run, you won't have to pay to tow it in. Let us know what works. Good luck.

I was able to get the door lock to finally work, and I tried the manual unlocking of the doors and then the manual unlock, probably a dozen times now. I even threw in a "roll the window down first" on one try. The key won't turn back in the ignition either. Din'tDin' t know if that's part of the anti theft or not?

So, shifted the Jeep out of gear, then back in gear and it started right up. So weird..but it works now. Thanks for the help
