i'm thinking about buying a 1999 jeep grand cherokee limited 4x4 v8 it has 103,000 mi . everything looks perfect it just want start. what could be the problem?
Need to check for spark, and for the proper fuel pressure if there is a spark. Then it has to be figured out from there.
Hope its cheap enough to figure out the issue, and not a money pit an/or easy to figure out before buying. Check compression and do as many checks/test as possible per the owner allows before buying if you can, if you get it to crank try to be ready to check other things too like charging system, codes set ect.
If it cranks but does not start, then the problem will be the fuel pump. Believe me!
The jeep has a switch in the door that activates the anti-theft. If you unlock the door with the key it is supposed to deactivate the anti-theft. Mine starts instantly unless the door unlock didn't work so once a month I have to get out, lock and unlock the door with the key and then it starts instantly. Got tired of that so I added a wire to the wire from the door so i can lean down and short the added wire to ground and it starts instantly. Could be the problem. Mine is a 1996 4.0 with 260,000+ miles.
