An air bag issue is best, no not best, only to be worked on by professionals, they are dangerous. I don't know about any of the other Guru's, they will answer as they choose but even if I knew, which I don't would not give repair advice, we are talking serious injury DIY

just curious, does it ding multipal times as your driving or just once?

hey thanks, and it only dings once while driving and a couple (3 or 4) when you start the vehicle.

regardless of how many times it dings, it should be checked out by a professional at a reputable shop. Your safety is important, airbags are not to be toyed with. I use to be a certified chrysler technician, our class on airbags and airbag safety was an eye opener.

Chris, As was I. I worked for Jeep since 86. I was a Master Tech. I have seen many of these ding due to bad clockspring. I do agree he should have a shop work on it. I was just curious.

if the clockspring is at fault most of the time the horn and cruise wont work either, but I do hear what you are tryin to say, the code should be driver squib circuit #1 open then. Good observation and by the way im not firing at you just want to make sure everyone stays safe out there.

After having a broken wire in the door harness, my airbag and seatbelt lights came on. After getting the repair done, to reset these lights I disconnected the negative terminal on the battery with the ignition on. After 1 minute replace the terminal with the ignition still switched and the lights go out and reset the airbag.

i have talked to a repair shop and the problem is a seat belt tenser but both are tied into the same error codes. It is true that while both lights are on, the air bags will not deploy for any reason including a crash, also if you were to be in an accident, the computer in your vehicle will say you had your seat belt off even if you had it on. I have not gotten this fixed yet as it is extremely pricey.

Had a similar problem, turns out I just had a flashlight jammed under the passenger seat.

I found a Youtube video that showed to unclip the clips, spray the connection with WD40 and reclip. I knew it was likely the passenger side of my 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee since at one time it would go in and out when the seat was adjusted. It eventually stayed on all the time. I checked the connections and then left it since I had searched and it seemed an expensive repair. In any case, after I saw the video, I unclipped them, sprayed WD40 on them and reclipped. That was 6 months ago, and the light has functioned normally ever since.

Mine turned out to be a 1L bottle of soda wedged under the seat. Has worked fine since removing it.

2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited Holy COW! I just check mine and it was my emergency kit that was under the seat. My niece moved the seat back and jammed the seat against the emergency kit and the floor. I tried to pull it out and it was stuck! I pushed the little electrical seat button forward, pulled out the emergency kit and checked for my dash light. No more Airbag warning light. It's odd how something so simple, can disable a safety feature. Thanks to all that have commented on here!

Light came on today, read this thread and of course there was a lot of stuff jammed under the seat. Cleared out under both seats and what do you know, the light went out. CHECK UNDER YOUR SEATS FIRST

I have a 2008 Cherokee limited. My light (airbag light) went out after I sprayed electrical connection spray in the wire plugs under the seat (passenger seat). The same had happened and was cured with spraying the plugs under drivers seat a few months back. Probably the wires were moved with rear passenger feet touching these plugs under the front seats. They need to be protected.

3 months later , still no light . If you have this issue , try wiggling the wires under the passenger seat . If that fails , disconnect to connector , inspect it . Clean if needed . Get dielectric grease and put some on the connection , plug it back in . If that fails I would suspect the clock spring (cheap on ebay and worked for me on a Lexus) or the air bag sensor(s) on the bumper . Some times it's worth the cost to have the problem diagnosed at the dealer before throwing parts at it . Use your own discretion

My jeep liberty 2003 has the airbag light on permanently but after the leaking pipe near the fuel tank was fixed the airbag light is now on and off. Is there any connection between the two???

So.. if the light goes off because you take things out from under the seat, do the airbags now work?

mida68 Yes , no light indicates the system will function as designed . The light is the signal telling you it's inoperable

I've got a 2003 Grand Cherokee Loredo with a constant airbag light on. So far I've check my fuses, they were good. Checked under my seat for bottles/cans... nothing there. Checked the connections and wiring under the seat, all good. Disconnected the under seat connections and cleaned them out, light still on. I changed my clock spring, light still on. Changed the airbag control module, light still on. I'm now out of options and have to take it to a shop to have the code scanned. I'll keep you posted on the results of that. One thing I did find odd was that the front passenger seat belt receiver (stationary side with the release button) doesn't have a sensor in it. Is it supposed to, or is a 2003 Jeep too old to have both side seatbelt sensors like modern vehicles do?

Thanks for this website! Had an airbag message, driver seatbelt not fastened, and auto stop disabled. My steering wheel column wouldn’t work nor presets. The comment flashlight under seat comment got me realizing I must have dislodged something vacuuming under seat and sure enough the clip on cables had been dislodged. Put it back in place and wala!

My 2007 grand Cherokee airbag light came on last week and this thread pointed me to look under the seats, being an air bag issue I had no intention of doing any work myself but decided to just have a look. One of the wires going to the connection under the passenger seat was pinched so bad it was spelt in two. I disconnected the battery and put the wire back together with some electric tape and the light went off. If you own an older jeep these threads will save you money, thanks to all who take the time to add to them. Cheers

I have a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited, 5.7 liter, 4X4 -- Purchased off the Showroom floor in 2005 --- had a issue with air bag warning light --- I disconnected the yellow connector under the passenger seat, cleaned and used electrolyte spray. I'm happy to say it did the trick! Love my Jeep, from the first day I drove it.

I was driing my 2010 Jeep Grand Cherokee over a bumby road and the air bag light came on. Great !!! I read a few blogs; checked the fuses. They were O.K. After reading your blog I checked under the seat. I had a snow scraper lodged against the yellow connection. I moved it away (way far away) and checked the connections. Now the air bag light is off. It's 70 degrees outside so why do I keep a snow scraper under the seat this time of year? Thanks man. You saved me a couple hundred bucks.

I have a 2019 and sure enough….something under the seat caused it to loosen a bracket that clips the wires in. Put back in place, started car and had no airbag light and my seatbelt light went off when i buckled up. This website just saved me baseline $140 diagnostic fee. Thank you

Hello there! I also encountered the same problem and tried fixing it myself but just wasted so much time. Then I did a lot of searches on this issue and came on in depth article which may be worth reading, search for "Jeep Airbag SRS Light On - Meaning & Problems on YOUCANIC. After reading their article I was able to fix the airbag light problem. I hope this does help you too.
