instrument cluster died

After sitting for a couple days, I started my 97 GC limited (5.2 L AWD) and started it up...sad to say
but the entire instrument cluster was dead and the only check light that illuminated was the ABS
light on the dash.  I then noticed that the automatic lights no longer worked which lead me to
believe it was a burnt fuse.  After checking all the fuses and found them to be good, I began
checking for continuity in the data link wires between the data (com/OBD 2) port and the
instrument cluster.  Continuity was found to be in good shape so I immediately suspected the
instrument cluster had simply gone bad.  After buying a new one ($870) I plugged it in and got the
same result...

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated at this point...

I would get a wiring diagram of both the instrument cluster and the automatic headlights (i think thats what you ment). Trace the power flow and make sure its getting power all the way through. it could just be a ground or power wire that has some high resistance or got pinched. not sure why you checked the wires between the obd2 port and then instrument cluster immediately. if you are getting good power and ground to and from the instrument cluster then i would take another look at the wiring diagram and pay attention to the abs light and find out why that is illuminating but nothing else. I don't know if you have a scanner but i would plug it in to the obd 2 port and see if any codes come up. you can usually rent these free at shucks, orielly, checkers, or where ever you are near. im not really familiar with chrystler/jeeps but i hope this helps a little. wish i was there to help you figure it out. -PJ

Check the ground and all connections on the body computer located on the left hand fender well next to your air box...

Had same problem it was my amp under driverside passener seat unpluged it and everything came back on
