Mosquito fogger that is my jeep

Asked by payton Mar 30, 2016 at 11:13 PM about the 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 96 4.0 grand cherokee. It's been sitting for
about a year, and i was told that the check light
came on followed by smoke and it was immediately
parked after. It had a rough idle as well. Long story
short, pcv was replaced and suddenly the check
light is off and says "PASS" on the OBDII. But it still
has a rough idle and runs like crap and smokes
when throttle is applied. Could that be from the
gunk that was sucked into the intake from the pcv
being stuck open?

sounds like it just needs some fresh fuel - especially if its been sitting for awhile. the check engine light is triggered immediately when there is a hard failure like you experienced, but something like a random misfire or harder to detect problem may take a full drive cycle to trigger the light

It's bluish. Like i said some of the oil was sucked up into the intake and idk if it's just burning off excess or what.
