Not cooling properly

I have a 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee 5.2
L V8 engine. Recently my jeep has
started to overheat but does not let off
and overheating smell. When I'm
driving the temperature gauge
progressively climbs all the way into
the red and then slowly starts to cool
down. It goes back and forth from
cooling down heating up for about 10
minutes until the temperature gauge
goes back to normal driving
temperature. I recently flushed the
radiator and changed both top and
bottom radiator hoses. I replaced the
thermostat a few months back but I
heard that those can go out pretty easy
depending on if you get a bad
thermostat or not. When I go to park
and turn off my vehicle sometimes it
leaks coolant.

I bought a new radiator cap because I thought that was also an issue when I replaced the hoses and that wasn't the issue because it continued to do the same thing. The gauge goes all the way and the heater blows cold air. I can feel it take a drink because one, the heater blows warm air and two the gauge says it is cooling down

Sounds dumb but have you made sure theres enough coolant in it? Check the overflow bottle there should be markings for the correct coolant level, if thats correct and your not losing coolant somwhere id say check the watter pump
