Jeep grand Cherokee transmission

Asked by Mar 23, 2017 at 12:12 AM about the 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Can i take a transmission out of a 95 jeep grand
Cherokee ( Laredo ) and put it in a 97 jeep grand
Cherokee ( limited ) or is there not a difference ?

I seriously doubt it. Engines and tranny harnesses must match. There are a few tranny combos that could be present here. Typically most had the 42RE with the 4.0 six. The 5.2 (318) came with the 44RE. Two totally different animals. Both in the A500 class, but not the same internally. The 44RE was built differently to withstand the horsepower of the V8. Different frictions and steels. Different torque converter. The torque converter could be a flat hub, or a slotted. Another big difference to consider. make sure you know what you have first!!! Can't stress this enough>>>>
