Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hello,  I was wondering when does the year change when ordering parts. I have a 07/1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo. I was told by friends that its a 1994 cause it goes by the 8th month, then it goes to the next year aka 1995. My insurance and reg and title call it a 1995. So I'm a bit confused. I'm rebuilding and adding a little lift to it. I just want to order the correct parts. Please any help would be great.
Thank you

The Model Year can be detremined by VIN: VIN digit number ten is by far the most referenced, in the car business, for quick age verification of a vehicle. This one is pretty easy, but just in case you like to read I've included a handy dandy little reference chart. Code Year 1980 L ---- 1990 Y ---- 2000 A ---- 2010 A 1981 M ---- 1991 1 ---- 2001 B ---- 2011 B 1982 N ---- 1992 2 ---- 2002 C ---- 2012 C 1983 P ---- 1993 3 ---- 2003 D ---- 2013 D 1984 R ---- 1994 4 ---- 2004 E ---- 2014 E 1985 S ---- 1995 5 ---- 2005 F ---- 2015 F 1986 T ---- 1996 6 ---- 2006 G ---- 2016 G

inside the driver side door will tell you, usually it the 10th month, for instance if you have a 1999 the date would be 10 of 1998

Been in the Repo Business over 25 years (retired now). And from real world experience, I can say that almost every vehicle with a date code of 6/??, Is the next year's date !! So a date code of 5/2000 Would be a year 2000, But a date code of 6/2000 would be a 2001. I've only ran into a handful of vehicles (all foreign) that wasn't dated like this. I've repo'd and towed over half a million vehicles in my 50 years.
