Cost estimate to replace a catalytic converter on a honda pilot 2006 2 wd

Asked by MarcTFG May 21, 2016 at 05:26 PM about the 2006 Honda Pilot EX

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a check engine light on and the dealer told me I had a bad Catalytic converter. The car runs fine and the gas mileage is normal. is it bad to drive the car? How much should replacement be if using after market market converter?

They are expensive- people even steal them for scrap because of the metals inside- usually they last longer than that unless the engine is running rich- get a second opinion-

Try to find out if its a PO420 code. If its the converter its already damaged then so the only thing that will affect the car is poorer gas mileage and possibly an exhaust restriciton

Be aware there two catilitic converters on the 2006, so make sure you go to a shop that's reputable. I had the heads done and one converter replace 1400 dollars, I got lucky only having to replace one - so get it done soon before the others one goes. Love my pilot but the maintenance is ridiculous and expensive.

First pay the money and have a diagnostic done on your car before you take it in, then you will know exactly what's going on with it and make a better decision on what you want done or need done

I am having the same issue with my 2006 pilot. 420 code. It probably is my catalytic converter that will need to be replaced but my mechanic said to try some SeaFoam in the gas. It might help for a while and reduce the carbon build up. I am also purchasing a new OEM gas cap for $23. So all in I am at $30. It might buy me some time to save for a new CC.
