Audi won't start

Asked by Christina May 12, 2016 at 12:27 AM about the 2001 Audi A6 2.7T quattro Sedan AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a Audi A6 Quattro 2.7T, the car recently
came out of the shop which I got ripped off
because not all issues were fixed but on my way
home from the shop the car shut off and when I
tried to restart it the car would crank but not
completely. Any idea what it could be and how
expensive could the fix be

Your timing belt broke, and being that all audi motors are INTERRUPT MOTORS, you likely have wrecked valves and pistons-- long story short- the motor is finished. The good news is that you have enough room in the engine bay to drop in a small block chevy motor, which will make driving your A6 a whole lot more fun... Sorry

Oh and the cost of an R and R (remove and replace) with cost of the motor is in the range of 2200.00 to 3500.00! Good luck

Could you clarify- "tried to restart it the car would crank but not completely". What does, "not completely" mean? Are there any sounds, grinding, etc?
