in the boot of my 2003 audi TT roadster is a 'kenwood' box...any idea what it is for?

Not sure but Kenwood is a brand name for a speaker.

If you are talking about the storage compartment just behind the driver seat, it is a CD Player that holds 5 cd's and plays through you car radio/cd player.
