2004 a6 2.7 floods out, wontstart, pull fuel pump fuse, starts, put fuse back in dies, happens several times then starts & runs ok

Car floods, won't start,pull fuel pump fuse, starts, stick fuse back in, dies.  
After 5-10 times, starts & runs. Causes? Temp sensor? Has a lot of short to
ground codes.
